Profiles
The STEPP study is being conducted at five large centres in the UK
caring for patients with Renal Transplants. The study is
running in collaboration with The Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway,
and the department of Epidemiology at the University of Leicester.
Principle Investigator
Dr James Medcalf
Is a Consultant Nephrologist at the Leicester General Hospital.
In addition to long-term transplant outcome his interests
include
development of IT systems in Renal Medicine and Models for predicting
demand for renal services. In 2006 he worked with
NHSconnecting for health on the renal "Do Once and Share" project which
worked to produce a description of both the current renal IT strengths,
and also how IT should support care of patients with kidney disease in
the future. His previous research and MD was in the effect of
Peritoneal dialysis solutions on mesothelial cell
extra-cellular matrix production, and in a randomised controlled study
of furosemide in patients on PD.

Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leicester. In
addition to long-term transplant outcome her interests include renal
disease in pregnancy, hypertension in CKD and medical eduction.
Professor John Feehally
Is Professor of Renal Medicine at the Leicester General Hospital, and
currently President of the Renal Association.

Is Professor of Transplantation at the Leicester General Hospital.

Dr Paul Harden
Is a Consultant Nephrologist at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.
His interests include Malignancy in the transplant recipient.

Dr John Scoble
Is a Consultant Nephrologist at Guy's Hospital, and Clinical Director of
Renal Services. His interests include the modernisation of
renal services.

Dr Chas Newstead
Is a Consultant Nephrologist at St James' University Hospital, and
Clinical Director of Renal Services. He has wide ranging
interests in the field of renal transplantation.

Professor Clare Bradley is professor of psychology at Royal Holloway.
She has extensive experience in the effects of disease on
patient reported outcomes of life and health. She has particular
interest in the effects of diabetes, macular disease and renal disease on
patient reported symptoms.
